What is eczema exactly?
I’ve suffered with eczema on my skin my entire life. As long as I can remember, I’ve had itchy red blotches on various parts of my body with my legs, hands and arms the most affected. Unfortunately, I passed this problem on to my kids, and it seems that they mostly experience eczema in the same places that I do, along with the areas behind their knees, in between their fingers and in the crooks of their elbows.
Nobody knows for sure what causes eczema…I’ve had doctors tell me that it could be some allergy to soaps or foods, others say that it is due to the skin becoming too dry, still others say it is an overreaction of the immune system.
These red patches can look scaly or just inflamed, but they are usually always extremely itchy…like you can’t stop scratching them because the moment you do, the feeling comes back. Sometimes I scratch so much (especially in my sleep) that I cause the skin to tear and bleed, which can then lead to infection.
While it’s no fun to deal with the incessant itching, what really bothered me was the way my skin looked to others.
Even though eczema isn’t a contagious disease, it can be off-putting to people that don’t recognize or know what it is.
Experiences with eczema
In addition to feeling hot and itchy all the time, the eczema on my body and my kids’ bodies have led to some pretty uncomfortable experiences with other people.
Back when we all shook hands with people (before the pandemic), I often cringed when having to shake hands with people in church or when meeting new people at school events or my husband’s work parties.
It was pretty embarrassing to have to offer a hand covered with big red patches…that were often weeping, or oozing clear liquid…to strangers.
My kids have had other children ask them, “What’s that red thing on your face?” or “What’s the matter with your legs?” when they had an especially bad eczema breakout. While it was usually just innocent child curiosity that led to these questions, my kids still felt uncomfortably different and worried whether or not their school friends would like them.
On the more trivial side of things, it’s really burdensome to have to try out a million different creams, lotions and medicines on your eczema so that you can find some relief. Usually, products that promise to eliminate the redness don’t work well, and sometimes they even make things worse.
Once I bought a new hand soap to use in our house, which unknowingly flared up the eczema on my hands. I didn’t even recognize that the soap was a problem–I thought it was something else doing it–because it was advertised as a natural product that was good for sensitive skin.
For my teenage daughter, who is just discovering the wonderful world of cosmetics and body products, to be unable to use the hot new product that all her friends rave about is sad for her…and I’m disappointed for her too.
A new treatment for eczema: Gladskin Eczema Cream
Fortunately, those of us who have struggled with eczema for years now have reason to celebrate! There is a new treatment available for that is available without a prescription: Gladskin Eczema Cream.
Gladskin is a company founded in Europe, whose products are designed to restore the health of skin, not just to reduce symptoms. They brought their products to the U.S. in 2020 and we are so lucky to have them.
This eczema cream is formulated with Micreobalance®, which is Gladskin’s patented smart protein that rebalances the good and bad bacteria that naturally live on the skin as it moisturizes.
I tried Gladskin Eczema Cream on a few spots of eczema that had appeared on my face and neck over the past few months. Despite using moisturizers and steroid cream, these spots never really went away. After a few days of using Gladskin cream, however, the itchiness began to go away and the redness started to fade.
The thing I like most about Gladskin Eczema Cream is that it’s ultra-moisturizing and calming to the skin. When I use it on my eczema, the tight, dry feeling immediately disappeared, and I wasn’t left with any oily or greasy residue.
Gladskin Eczema Cream is also gentle enough to put on my children; in fact, you can use this cream on babies as young as three months old. I also like the fact that it is non-toxic, unlike some over-the-counter eczema creams. It can be used on a long-term basis to keep eczema at bay.
My daughter has also been using the eczema cream on her hands, which have recently developed patches of eczema. These itchy red patches between her fingers really irritated her, especially because they began to burn any time she cut fruit or vegetables in the kitchen. After a few days of Gladskin, however, the red blotches began to vanish and she can again prepare food without stinging on her fingers.
In addition to the Eczema Cream, Gladskin also offers Body Wash, Face Wash and a Shampoo Bar that can be used to support the skin. These products don’t contain the harsh ingredients that some other soaps do…the ones that can irritate eczema-prone skin…so they are a good addition to a skin care regimen. My daughter currently uses the body wash everyday and she has seen and improvement in her skin.
You can find Gladskin Eczema Cream, and the coordinating skin care products, at their website. You can save 10% on your order on gladskin.com with promo code GLADMOM10.
I’m so glad to have Gladskin Eczema Cream in my life! There will be no more embarrassment over blotchy hands or face any longer 🙂
