Before you get started on your house cleaning routine, it’s best to make sure you have all the tools you need to do the job.
I know that choosing household cleaning products can be a challenge, just because there are SO many different things to choose from. And it might seem like you need a special cleaner for just about every room in your house, but that is not the case. I’d like to share with you what I consider to be the best eco-friendly household cleaning products to use in your cleaning routine. Please note, this post contains affiliate links.
Why choose Eco-Friendly Household Cleaning Products?
I know this is a bit shocking to admit, but I never used to care whether or not I used earth-friendly cleaning products in my home. I sort of felt like the health concerns were a bit overblown and I wasn’t sure that they actually worked well in getting rid of dirt and germs.
When I was young, I watched my grandmother clean just about everything with bleach or some sort of bleach-based cleaner. It was important for her to kill any yucky germs that might be lurking in a kitchen sink that had been splashed with raw chicken juice or a bathroom toilet that had been used by 4 people for a week. She even used bleach on our white-colored laundry…especially underwear…to make sure that there were no germs lurking in them after they had been washed.
So when I grew up, got married, and started a household of my own, I didn’t want any eco-friendly household cleaning products cluttering up my pantry…I wanted those proven germ-killing cleaners for my home. Yes, I got the germ-killing power of the cleaners, but I also got toxic fumes and burned skin from using them regularly.
When my kids were born, and were being placed in a bathtub that had remnants of bleach on it or were crawling around on a floor that had been mopped with bleach-based cleaner, I was scared that they might somehow get that into their mouths and get sick. So I decided to make a change.
I tried using my own homemade cleaners for a while, and with the exception of my homemade glass cleaner, I pretty well scrapped them all. They just didn’t have the strong cleaning power I was used to and all that time I spent cleaning didn’t really show any results.
Then I heard about Grove Collaborative.
A One-Stop Shop for Eco-Friendly Products
Grove Collaborative is a busy mom’s best friend. They ship eco-friendly household cleaning products, right to your door every month…or however often you choose.
Back in the fall, I decided to give them a try because they offer new customers a FREE Home Bundle with your first purchase of $20 or more. The bundle includes a Mrs. Meyer’s hand soap, dish soap, multi-surface spray, and a Grove Walnut Scrubber sponge set. (That may be the first time ever I was excited to clean my house…)
The Method bathroom cleaners worked fabulously, and left a fresh minty smell instead of a harsh chemical smell. The Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap cut right through the grease in my frying pans. The Method floor cleaner left my laminate floor streak-free, and the Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Surface cleaner left my refrigerator and countertops fresh-smelling and clean.
I guess you can get a clean and germ-free house with eco-friendly household cleaning products after all!
The best thing about Grove Collaborative is that they ship right to your house, so there is no risk of going into Target for a few cleaning supplies and leaving $80 later. I’ve found their prices to be just as good or better than Target or Walmart, which is a plus for a frugal mom like me. They also send you reminder emails and texts so that you can adjust your order before it ships…in case you need extra of one thing or less of another.
So before we get started on our How to Clean A House series, pop on over to Grove Collaborative to get all your supplies ready.
These are the products I personally use and recommend:
