Savoring the Scent of Home for the Holidays

It’s said that certain smells can evoke strong memories in people…it’s an often overlooked, but strong part of our memories of places like home.

Whether it’s the smell of coffee brewing in the early morning, a roast turkey in the oven, or a beautiful garden full of scented flowers in the yard, our memories of home are perforated by smell, whether or not we consciously remember them.

The scents we grow up with in our homes connect us with happy memories made and holidays celebrated. Learn the tricks to making house smells that your family will savor all throughout the holiday season, using candles, and air fresheners.

I’m not sure what my kids will remember about the smells of our home, but I hope they will be comforting ones. Over the past few years, I’ve really become more intentional about creating an atmosphere around our home that speaks of coziness, love and comfort, and that, of course, involves smell.

During the holidays especially, I yearn to create a happy, cozy place in which we can make memories amongst the four of us, whether by baking treats, watching movies, or sipping cocoa while reading a book aloud. Candles are a must, as they give not only a beautiful glow during the dark days of winter, but a pleasant smell to the rooms.

Unfortunately, not everyone can experience this kind of memory, because they do not have a home of their own. Not only do they miss out on special holiday memories, but the more important feeling of safety and security that comes from knowing you have a place in which to live life.

This year, in celebration of its Life Scents Holiday Collection, Air Wick is giving the gift of home to those who need it by launching its Give the Gift of Home campaign. This campaign includes a donation of $250,000 to Habitat for Humanity, which will help some families start a new chapter in their lives.

Take a look at this heartwarming video on the gift of home and how the power of scent…an often forgotten element of home…brings families all over the world closer:

What a wonderful gift to the families that have left their long-time homes! It must be so heartwarming to be able to light a candle and smell your beloved garden or the tea that you shared with your spouse of so many years.

I’m so excited to use these candles from Air Wick’s new Life Scents Collection this season. Each candle features the first-ever constantly changing fragrances…which is nice for a person like me, who loves the smell of so many candles that she wants to burn them all at once! With scents like Spiced Apple Crumble, Snowflake Vanilla Cookie, Emerald Woodland and Berry Cool Winer available, you are sure to find something that your whole family loves.

And if you aren’t a fan of candles, or have young toddlers that prevent you from having an open flame around the house, you can also find these pretty scents in other forms, such as plugin refills, Freshmatic® Auto Spray Refills as well as wax melts, so that you can let the smell of the holidays permeate your home.

With the addition of these beautiful scented Air Wick candles to my home decor, I think that our family will have a lot of pleasant memories this season.

What smells remind you of home?
