Disclosure: I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for the MetLife TRICARE Dental Program. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
When my husband first deployed to Iraq, I was a nervous wreck.
Although he had been in the Marine Corps for about 13 years, he had never had to deploy to a war zone before. That, coupled with all the terrible news reports coming out of the Middle East, made me very scared for our future, because I didn’t know what to expect.
I tried to read everything I could find about surviving military deployments, because for me, having all the information helps me feel more ready. Thankfully, the military was very supportive and held classes for the spouses and gave us articles to read in order to help us prepare.
The one tip I remember reading that has stuck with me is this: Don’t overburden your spouse with problems that he cannot fix while deployed. When he is away, it helps him feel better to know that his family is taken care of back at home.
So before he left for Fallujah, we made sure we had a will and power of attorney, emergency information written down, and our insurance in place, including the TRICARE Dental Program, which required separate enrollment from the TRICARE Health Plan. Knowing that his family was going to be taken care of while he was gone took a lot of stress off my husband’s shoulders.
The TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) is such a great benefit for military families. Not only is it affordable for families on a budget, but you can take it anywhere you are stationed. Moving is hard enough, but knowing that you can keep the same insurance no matter what state you PCS to is such a relief.
We also liked the fact that the TDP let us see almost any dentist that we wanted, since the network covers over 250,000 dental locations. When I found out that I could go to one of the best dental practices in our area, I was thrilled!
Not only does the Met Life TRICARE Dental Program provide budget-friendly, continuous coverage, and a large network of high-quality dentists, but it is also passionate about teaching its members about dental health and the practices that lead to healthy teeth. They make it easy to get this information through their Dental HealthMatters Newsletter and the TDP Facebook page.
The MetLife TRICARE Dental Program is for military families only, but it is one of the most important things you can do to help your service member have peace of mind that his or her family is cared for…while deployed or back at home.
