Maintaining My Copper Brown Hair Color

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Pantene Platinum at Sam’s Club.

When I was a child, I had a mousy brown shade of hair. I didn’t hate it, but it just wasn’t very pretty. In the summer, however, being out in the sun while playing all day turned my hair from that mousy brown into the most beautiful copper brown hair color, and I just adored it.

I remember always receiving so many compliments on my hair color every year…it seemed that people wanted their hair to be that pretty coppery-brown shade too. However, as time went on, and I became an adult who worked inside at my job and wasn’t outside very often, my hair turned back into that mousy brown 365 days a year.

Over time, I started seeing grey hairs popping up, and I knew that it was time to start coloring my hair. It made me sad at first, because I associated it with being old, but then I realized that I could once again have that copper brown hair color that I always loved so much in the summer all year round.

After some consultation with my hair stylist, we colored my hair that pretty shade and again, I received a lot of compliments from friends and strangers. But now that I was a mom, and outside again quite a bit in the summer with my kids, at the pool, park, or just playing in the backyard, the sun, which had once brought out the copper color, was now fading it.

I also discovered that washing my hair with the wrong shampoo would slowly strip that expensive color from my hair too. Because the red in the hair color was so fragile, my colorist explained, it was easily washed away.

Since then, I’ve been careful to only use color-safe shampoos, but the copper brown never really looks the same on week 5 as it did in week 1.

Fortunately, the brilliant people over at Pantene have forumlated a new color-safe shampoo and condition that is designed to lock in your color for up to 6 weeks, just in time for your next appointment at the salon (or with your home hair color product!).

Available right now at Sam’s Club, the Pantene Platinum Color Lock shampoo and conditioner are safe to use on color-treated hair daily to help fight that dreaded color fade we all experience in the summer sun. The 40 oz. bottles with pump are super convenient too…they last a long time, and the pump dispenser makes it easy to use.

For the next 6 weeks, I’m going to be using the Pantene Platinum Color Lock system on my hair every day to see if it really does lock in that copper brown hair color that I love so much! Here’s what my hair looks like today:

I used both the shampoo and conditioner this morning when I came back from my workout at the gym. My hair feels super soft, is nice and shiny, and smells great. I hope the color protection works as well as its conditioning does!

Your hair color is so pretty, Erin! 🙂 I haven’t colored my hair in many years, but I think I might try again someday. At the moment, I don’t mind the grey hairs or the long grey streak I’ve got going on.

What do I like best about my hair? The length. I love my long hair, but I do wish that it was thicker.

Thanks so much Sandra…your hair is very pretty too! I can’t tell that you have any greys in your vlogs. I have a lot of grey though…it’s kinda scary how much I can see in my roots when the color grows out a bit…

I agree with Sandra, your hair color is very nice. I’ve come to love my stick straight hair. I used to want it curly but after even perms quit working on my hair after a pregnancy, I decided to embrace my straight hair.

Thank you Shelly! I’ve never heard of perms not working after pregnancy…how interesting! I used to get perms when I was younger, back in the 80’s and 90’s, and I loved them…made fixing my hair so easy 🙂

What I like best about my hair is the fact that I it is very versatile. It will do just about any style with a little help from the right products ☺

Yay! It’s so nice to see that your patience pays off when growing out your hair, isn’t it?

Thanks so much for stopping by today Ellen 🙂
