This quick and easy breakfast is perfect for Christmas morning, when your family wants a little bite between opening presents and playing with all their new toys. Grinch Cinnamon Rolls are a fun way to celebrate the holiday, with the green color of the Grinch in the icing, and a little red candy heart to boot.
Your kids will remember this fun breakfast for many years to come!
Christmas breakfast for kids
With all the craziness leading up to Christmas…the shopping, baking, wrapping, parties, and a big dinner to cook for Christmas Day, the last thing I want to do is make another big meal on Christmas morning.
A quick and easy breakfast is great for this mama, who was probably woken up at the crack of dawn by her kids, didn’t get to make her coffee, because the kids wanted to rush down to open presents, and will have to pick up scraps of torn wrapping paper and organize gift bags in the closet (because I ALWAYS save them!) later that morning.
Can you relate?
Not only does this recipe use store-bought cinnamon rolls, making a hot breakfast super easy to make, but with just a couple of special ingredients, they are turned into a fun holiday treat for the kids.
Because I don’t know about you, but the one holiday movie we never fail to watch at Christmastime is The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. My kids LOVE it!
How to Make Grinch Cinnamon Rolls
To make this Grinch-y breakfast, you’ll just need:
- a package of cinnamon rolls (any brand will do),
- green food coloring, and
- red candy hearts or sprinkle hearts
Place the rolls on a sheet pan or cookie sheet about 2 to 3 inches apart, and bake the rolls according to package directions. Mine took about 12 minutes to bake through.
While the rolls are baking, add a few drops of green food coloring to the icing that came with the cinnamon rolls, and stir to combine.
After the rolls come out of the oven and have cooled for a few minutes, spread each roll with some of the green frosting.
Then add one little red heart candy or sprinkle to each roll to show the Grinch’s tiny heart.
Put them on a plate, pour out some milk for the kids and some coffee for yourself, and dig in!
