Big Family Fun at the Dover International Speedway

Disclosure: I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Dover International Speedway. I received complimentary tickets to facilitate my post and promotional item to thank me for my participation at the conclusion of the program.

When my husband and I were first dating, he introduced me to one of his greatest loves…NASCAR racing. He grew up watching the races every weekend with his grandpa, excited to see all the big crashes that would happen every so often.

We went to many races on small dirt tracks during our time in the military…California, Texas, North Carolina, Maryland…but when we had a chance to go see the Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway, well, I thought he would burst with excitement.

I don’t remember who won the race that day, but I do remember the clean seats, wonderful food concessions, friendly people and the big excitement throughout the stands. We had a great time and talked of how wonderful it would be to bring the kids that we might have one day to a race.

When our first baby, our daughter, was born, she had a pink Dale Earnhardt Jr. onesie and cap, which just tickled my husband (although he was more of a Dale Sr. fan), and the two of them would sit on the couch together on Sundays and watch the race. (For mom, it was a good way to get the baby to take a nap, as she would usually fall asleep snuggled up against warm Daddy!)

Our son came along a few years later, and he likes to watch all the crashes that happen during the race, just like his daddy did when he was a little boy.

Through the years, we always continued to talk about the day when we could once again take a trip over to Dover to see the race live at the famous Monster Mile.

Well finally, that old dream is coming true, thanks to the wonderful people at Dover International Raceway, our whole family is going to see the FedEx 400, benefiting the Autism Speaks organization, on May 31!

Being able to see all the big drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr., Kyle Busch and more, as well as a fun concert by country music star Jerrod Niemann, visiting the Monster FunZone and shopping for NASCAR souvenirs is going to make for a big day of family fun!

I’m also excited that the kids will be able to participate in the new kids club, which is called the Monster Mile Youth Nation. For only $20, kids ages 14 and under can gain exclusive access to race weekend activites, plus:

  • A free FanVision rental on one race weekend
  • A free welcome gift, such as a water bottle or diecast car, and
  • Access to a special VIP area in the Monster FunZone

I think the FanVision rental is worth the price of the kids club alone, because it lets you listen to the live broadcast, plus watch the drivers’ onboard cameras, and get instant replays. How cool is that?

The best part of the whole day will be the Q&A session with Jimmie Johnson before the race! Did you know that he has won nine times at Dover? This event is open to the general public; read more about it at the website.

  1. We used to go to the local speedway when I was younger with my aunt and uncle. It wasn’t a big Nascar race but it was fun. We used to go out to the drag races too. My husband used to drag race each week. It was really a lot of fun.

    1. How interesting! Your husband sounds like a lot of fun, between flying his own plane and drag racing cars ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure you have lots of fun in your family!

    1. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! We are all looking forward to the Dover race…my son was sad that it is almost still a month away!
