4 Weeks to a More Organized Home (Simplified): Catch-up!

Crystal over at Money Saving Mom is running her popular 4 Weeks to a More Organized Home series during the month of November, and I’m excited to join her in preparing our homes for the holiday season!

I’m a bit behind, thanks to the power outage we endured from Hurricane Sandy, as well as the changes going on with my blog, but I’m confident that I can get caught up pretty quickly.  I actually completed some of it after the power outage without even knowing it 🙂

Day 1

On Day 1, Crystal instructed us to pick up our main living area and to clean out our purses.  Luckily, Mondays are my pick-up-from-the-weekend days, so I already took care of the picking up this morning.

My purse is a whole other matter entirely.

When I was at Allume, I was given the most beautiful tote bag from Dayspring as part of our conference swag.  It was so beautiful that I could not bear to put it away in the closet.  So I’ve decided to carry this tote bag as my every day purse.

It’s been 2 weeks, and I haven’t completely switched all my stuff from one bag to the other.   {Embarrassed sigh}  Good thing for this challenge, huh?

There…all better!

 

Days 2 and 3

On days 2 and 3, we are supposed to do a quick clean of our kitchen, including the refrigerator and freezer.

I cleaned up the kitchen this morning as part of my weekly chores.  The fridge and freezer were cleaned out when our power came back on about a week ago.

After our power was out for about 12 hours, I decided to take the items in our freezer and put them in an ice chest with some ice packs. I had hoped to save as much food as I could, since we lost quite a bit during the last 2 big storms that we had this year (we had power outages with each one lasting 3 days or more).  The food in the ice chest was still frozen when the power came back on, but unfortunately, we still had to throw quite a bit away.

The silver lining to all this was that I was able to free a chub package of hamburger that had become wedged in one of the drawers on the door of the freezer.  We thought we were going to have to break the drawer off to get that hamburger out, but because it defrosted with the power outage, we were able to bend it a little bit and remove it from the drawer!

Tomorrow, I will tackle days 4, 5, 6 and (hopefully!) 7 🙂

  1. I am working on this series also to get my home in better shape before the holidays. In my freezer we found some little odds and ends of some of my freezer cooking along with a few cookie dough rolls when I cleaned our freezer. So we were able to have lunch from items I found in the freezer.
