Being a homemaker means that we create a home that feels warm and welcoming to both your family and to any guests that might visit. Part of that job involves decorating our houses with beautiful things to look at and warm, soft places in which to sit.
While most of these things can be purchased from a store, it is sometimes fun to create your own home decor. Not only is this sometimes less expensive, but we can usually make something that aligns exactly with our own tastes in color or style.
This collection of 24 quick home decor projects will help you to make your home a cozy place in which to spend time with your loved ones…and allow you to indulge your artistic side, while saving on your budget too!
What makes a room cozy?
First of all, how can we tell when our homes are cozy? What does that mean exactly?
According to the dictionary, the word cozy means “snugly warm and comfortable,” as in the phrase “a cozy little house.”
So this means our aim is to make our houses warm and comfortable.
We want to make our homes pleasant to be in because there are beautiful things to look at, cozy chairs with soft pillows in which to sit and watch movies, warm blankets to drape over us while reading books, and nice smells (either from home cooking or scented candles).
In other words, we want to create a space that people are able to rest and relax in, and make them feel welcomed.
How do I make my house cozy and inviting?
There isn’t really any specific design style that you have to follow to make your home feel cozy. It’s all about your own personal tastes and what feels cozy to you.
I do think, however, that some decor styles feel a little more relaxing than others. For example, sometimes a modern style, with its hard lines and cold-looking furniture, doesn’t seem too restful to me. I have a hard time imagining my kids lounging in a hard chair while reading their favorite novels.
The key to making your house snug and enjoyable is to place items in the rooms that bring comfort to people. Things like throw pillows, candles, blankets, lamps that give off soft light, and fluffy throw rugs can really make a place seem inviting.
How do I make my house cozy on a budget?
While you can always find some beautiful home decor items at any home store, your budget sometimes can’t afford them! That’s where DIY projects come in. You’ll be amazed at what you can do with items found at the thrift or dollar store and some paint or glue.
You can even use items that you already own, give them a quick makeover with some paint, and you have something new!
